By the south coast at the eastern end of Crete you will find the small town of Mirtos (Myrtos). IMO this was the most charming of the towns we visited at the south coast, it also had a great deel of Greek authenticity. The view in this area is not as nice as other parts of the Island because of all the white dots of “green houses” you see all arround the landscape. Mirtos is situated by the Libyan Sea abouth 50 km from Agios Nikolaos.
The beach in Mirtos and the walkway along the sea front. You will find several small kafeneions (cafes) and tavernas here, which also rent out sunbeds and umbrellas at the beach. What you will not find is high rise hotel buildings which is very positive.
Note the backdrop of the Kolektos mountain.
Colorful details and pink bouganvilla in the streets of Myrtos.
